Loafin'

Note: The "Loafing" assignment was given during Week 6

Two weeks ago/during Week 7 I went camping during mid-terms (Acu Points and Herbology).  Bottomline is, I got some serious loaf time in.  The camp trip was planned around when my daughter got in to a particular Girl's Scout day camp in the North Bay, which requires people to apply Lottery style so you don't know until mid-March which week you get (you essentially get one week out of a possible four).  She got the first week of camp, so I booked a nearby campsite to make things easier on myself in terms of getting her to the bus stop and me to school on time.  I couldn't predict what would be happening with school at that time, since Summer classes didn't start until May, so I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.  It just so happened that my two biggest mid-term exams were scheduled that week as well.  So much for the "maybe I'll lake the week off" scenario.

At this point, I can understand most people in my situation cancelling the camp and signing up for something else.  There's a financial piece to it, I should add as well.  The Girl Scout camp is $150 for the week, while most other camps range in the $400-500 per week category.  Also, if you don't book your kid's summer in January, February at the latest, it's slim pickings out there.  So, back to what I was saying, completely reasonable to cancel, but it costs you.

So I'm locked in.  My aim is to study hard during the first half of school so there's not an issue of trying to play catch up during the week we're sleeping in tents.  Everything went pretty much as planned, although I did bring all my notebooks and textbooks with me, and did put some energy into studying.  But what I overwhelmingly noticed was that Nature wants you to loaf, not study.  Maybe she wants you to study her some, but mostly she wants you to loaf.  Especially if sleeping on the ground isn't your normal day-to-day, or sitting for hours by a fire isn't your regular night-time routine.  So "more loafing, less studying" was the overall motto.

Needless to say, I didn't ace my tests.  I did, however, attend both exams fairly stress-free.  I don't have the Herbology grade, but I don't think I did any better or worse than usual, which is usually a high score.  I got my grade from Acu Points, and I scored 1.5 points less than I did on the previous mid-term.  And we were accountable for triple the amount of material.  I was 1 point away from the highest score in our class.

What's the take-away?  I'm still going to spend most of my time studying.  I will also definitely sign up my daughter for the same camp next year.
